Thiel track and field senior standout Nic Jones, a Franklin High School graduate, was selected to the first team of the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team.
The team was picked by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Jones majored in Early Childhood/Special Education and graduated with a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average.
Jones claimed All-America honors at this year’s NCAA D-III track and field championships after placing eighth in the high jump (6 feet, 7 1/2 inches). He also finished 13th in the long jump (23-2 1/2) at nationals.
He was selected as the Most Valuable Performer at the 2014 Presidents’ Athletic Conference indoor championships after winning titles in the high jump and long jump and finishing second in the triple jump. He also was named the Field MVP at the 2014 PAC outdoor championships after finishing first in the high jump and second in the long and triple jumps. He earned All-American honors at the 2014 D-III indoor championships with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, and was 10th in the high jump at the 2014 outdoor championships. He claimed two titles at the PAC outdoor championships this past season, winning the triple jump and the high jump.
Jones earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors three times and was a Capital One Academic All-America second-team selection in 2014.
