Seven former District 10 soccer standouts were named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference’s 60th anniversary women’s soccer team.
The 60-member team includes Thiel graduates Katie Myers, Patti Piotrowski, Laura Simonetti, Jess Peterson and Renee Fabrey. Grove City graduates Sarah Cessar and Kathy Keehlwetter also were named to the team.
Here’s a look at each player:
- Myers, a Villa Maria graduate, was an All-PAC second-team selection as a freshman in 1997 and as a sophomore.
- Piotrowski, a North East graduate, was a second team All-PAC pick her sophomore (1999) and junior (2000) years. She also was an All-PAC honorable mention in 2001.
- Simonetti, a McDowell grad, ranks second on Thiel’s career points (71) and goals (23) list. The four-time all-PAC selection (2001-04) is the Wildcats’ all-time leader in assists (25) with a Thiel single-season mark of 11 in 2003.
- Peterson, a Reynolds grad, is fourth on Thiel’s career list for points (29) and goals (12). She was an All-PAC second team performer after her junior (2001) and senior (2002) seasons.
- Fabrey (1995-98) was a two-time All-PAC first team goalkeeper in 1997 and ’98. The Kennedy Christian grad had 277 saves and a 9.23 saves-per-game average for Thiel.
- Cessar attended Grove City from 2010-13 after graduating Slippery Rock High School. She was a two-time All-PAC first-teamer (2012, ’13) at midfield and second-team all-PAC pick in 2011.
- Keehlwetter, a Mercer grad, was selected as the 2001 PAC MVP. A three-time All-PAC first team selection (1999-2001), she also earned 1998 All-PAC second team honors. She helped lead the Wolverines to PAC Championships in 2000 and 2001. She is tied for seventh in Grove City history with 79 games started.
Allegheny College graduates Joe Byers, Dave Macky and Dave Nelson were named to the PAC 60th anniversary men’s soccer team.
The PAC, initially organized in 1955, will announce 60th anniversary teams throughout the 2014-15 seasons.
